An experience to understand what has happened, is happening and is going to happen in the city.

This is a very complete experience to understand Medellín’s reality, what has happened, is happening and will probably happen in the city. We will visit the Museo Casa de la Memoria (Memory house museum), comuna 13 and the innovation district.

We will start by visiting the Museo Casa de la Memoria (Memory house museum). It is a great homage built for our society to heal, remember and never forget what happened. Thus it is possible that history won’t repeat. We are going to learn on a clear way what has happened in terms of conflict in the country and what have been the consequences.

We will then walk through comuna 13, known at some point as the most dangerous neighborhood in the world. It was a place where nobody wanted to go and that was everyday in the newspapers with tragic news. Today It has became in the most artistic and vibrant spot in the city. Along with the the construction of the public escalators as a solution the steep territory, this community has transformed itself on an incredible way. Now the collectives of graffiti artists, rappers and b-boys are the main characters as well as the organizations dedicated to offer alternatives to the inhabitants who only dropped tears for many years.

Here we will be walking and talking to a member of one of the art collectives that work for the social and cultural development of the community. We will discover the area while listening to real stories of the comuna.

At lunch time we will make a delicious stop at typical Colombian seafood restaurant. It is owned by a family that arrived to the city running away from violence in their land. (If you don’t eat seafood or are vegetarian/vegan we have another option, don’t worry).

Finally we will visit Ruta N, there we will do a tour with someone who works in there and will tell us what they are doing in terms of innovation, technology and entrepreneurship for the city. This will give us the future perspective of Medellín.

    Incredible way to experience Medellin

We joined Andres for the “Medellin: past, present, and future” tour. We started at the Museo Casa de la Memoria to learn about the contemporary history of the city before exploring various neighborhoods (trying amazing food along the way). Andres shared his knowledge of the city and partnered with local guides to give us an authentic experience. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Medellin.

The tour was done in both English and Spanish to accommodate the group.
